Molesworth Station, Marlborough, is New Zealand's largest cattle station and farm park. It covers an area of 180,476 hectares ( 500,000 acres ) Molesworth is remote,vast and timeless where conservation,farming and recreation work successfully together. Farming commenced in the 1860's and the old stock route between Canterbury and Nelson traversed this vast country. Only cattle are farmed now and total approx 10,000 . The road through is open from December to April although can be closed at any time due to bad weather, slips, washouts, snow or stock movements. The season is extended for private tour operators and include cycling,rafting,kayaking, mountain biking and horse riding tours.
