The Dominican Republic is one of the greater Antilles in the Caribbean. The Island is divided by Haiti and the Dominican Republic, which occupies 2/3 of the Island. The first pat developed for Tourism was Puerto Plata up in the north of the Dominican Republic. Bavaro - Puntat Cana came later. Bavaro on the other hand got it's name from the first Hotel, Barcelo Bavaro Beach. People from Higuey (the next city) would go to Bavaro to work. ......... Well now this is all history, it is a fact that Bavaro is an almost Hotel only zone. To get to see some of the Dominican Republic you got to get out of there, unless you came here to just enjoy the beach, which is just fine, because we are among the 10 most beautyfull beaches of the world. With the Buggie's, you come pretty close to what I would call the real dominican republic. You drive off the beaten path, where other can't go.
