Heather and I had a whirlwind weekend in QC in order for her to attend her Katimavik 30th anniversary re-union. Katimavik was and is a government sponsored program that places groups of high school grads in various communities throughout the land to participate in community service projects. We arrived at 9 am on a Saturday and took our rental car for a road trip to Montmorency Falls and Ste. Anne de Beaupre before the reunion at 3 pm that afternoon. We spent the Sunday exploring this charming city. Quebec City celebrated its 400th anniversary last year. Quebec was established at the point of narrowing of the St. Lawrence River which drains the Great Lakes of central North America into the Gulf of St. Lawrence and into the Atlantic. It is situated on a cliff and the old city is split into the lower town down by the river and the upper town. Beyond the old city the city continues to sprawl. Quebec City is the capital of the province of Quebec which is a predominantly French speaking province and the second most populous province of Canada. The city has an incredibly Euro feel to it with its old architecture and laid back ambience. The Dufferin Terrace is a fabulous boardwalk that offers splendid vista of the majestic St. Lawrence River. The city is an ideal venue for prractising one's capabilities with the French language.
