The deep blue color of Tracy Arm's bergs (and Glacier Bay's glaciers (see Glacier Bay article)) is caused by the great pressure of all the snow and ice that sit, move and grind atop the glacier. After years of compression and movement, the berg and glaciers are penetrated by the higher frequency blue light, while the longer wavelengths are absorbed. So why no purple bergs?
