The guards were young, most of them between 15 & 20 years of age. Women were tortured differently. If they had a baby with them, the guards would threaten to kill the child unless she confessed. Terrified for their babies lives, the women would confess to almost anything. The infant was eventually brutally killed in front of the mother anyway. Many women were raped when brought into camp, often violently. An epidemic of women jumping from the balconies of the 2nd floor to kill themselves before or after rape caused the guards to install wire around the windows and balconies. They didn't want anyone dying on their own accord.
