At the entrance to Glacier Bay. John Muir "discovered" the bay in 1879, surprised that Vancouver's otherwise "admirably faithful" charts showed "no trace of it." Muir wrote: It seems probable, therefore, that even then the entire bay was occupied by a glacier of which all those described above, great though they are, were only tributaries.
