<noembed><nolayer><div style="position:absolute; left:0; top:-100; display:none;"> The INDEPENDENCE MONUMENT<br> Sightseeing in Phnom Penh picture - jokingly called the &#39;big pineapple&#39;, stands defiantly in the center of a huge traffic roundabout located south of the town center at the intersection of Norodom and Sihanouk. Norodom Boulevard is the broad thoroughfare that joins the old colonial section of the city to the modern zone developed during the &#39;60s. Designed by renowned Cambodian architect, Vann Molyvann, the flamboyant concrete monument was erected in 1958 &#38; inaugurated in November 1962 to commemorate Cambodia&#146;s independence from French rule in 1953. </div></nolayer></noembed>
