Whitby is on the Yorkshire Coast north of Scarborough. High on the East Cliff is St Hilda’s Abbey looking over the maze of alleyways and narrow streets that run down to the busy quayside. From the quayside there are 199 steps leding up to the parish church of St Mary, whose churchyard gave Bram Stoker the inspiration to write his world famous book Dracula.
