Cooktown (formally Cooks Town), is a small frontier town located in the far north of Tropical North Queensland; it boasts a unique character born of years of geographic isolation. Cooktown has many areas of natural beauty and a fascinating history. Until January 2006, part of the road to Cooktown was still dirt and in some seasons the town could only be accessed by 4WD. Now with the bitumen all the way, Cooktown is accessible to all.
