Huckleberry Blossoms
East Bay picture - at the Huckleberry Botanic Regional Preserve on the Skyline Ridge. The preserve holds one of the most diverse and rare plant communities in the Bay Area. The shales and cherts fracture the soil, making the soil a poor retainer of water. The relative harshness favors native species, while the fog provides enough water. There is a great natural succession here, where certain plants slowly, but constantly replace each other throughout the seasons and over the years.
