Of some 7,000 Canadians who served there as Imperial troops, 267 were killed. Twelve nurses also served, including Georgina Pope, featured later in this article. After the war, the &#145;Pretoria Bridge&#146; was built in Ottawa over the Rideau Canal, in memory of the most significant Canadian battle.
