Monuments & Memorials in Ottawa picture - (H. MacCarthy statue, 1902). Of some 7,000 Canadians who served there as Imperial troops, 267 were killed. Twelve nurses also served, including Georgina Pope, featured later in this article. After the war, the Pretoria Bridge was built in Ottawa over the Rideau Canal, in memory of the most significant Canadian battle.
