We visited Zambia in early October 2003, spending 10 days in the northern half of Kafue National Park, in the west of the country. The transfer from Lusaka Airport took just over 7 hours - parts of the main road heading west from the capital were in a bad state, although a determined effort to renew this road was in evidence. After Mwamba the road was pretty good. As the road improvements are made, the journey time will decrease. In fact the return journey 10 days later took an hour less, so there's progress!
