Originally gothic, it was remodeled in renaissance style in the 16th century. The interior is faced with 17th century azulejos, and the ceiling has painted religious scenes. There is also the ornately sculptured tomb of João de Noronha, who died in 1575. Here, at age 10, the future King Afonso V married his eight-year-old cousin. Besides that unusual historical fact, it’s a beautiful church inside.
