February 2011: we spent just over a week walking in the Outer Canary Islands (the quieter ones) of La Gomera and El Hierro. We were with a great group of 11 people and excellent Spanish guide Maxi and travelling with one of our favourite travel companies, Explore.

El Gomera was very beautiful and surprisingly green whereas El Hierro was wilder and more barren. Walks on both islands - given their volcanic origin - were very steep up and down. Not much flat land there!
