About three miles (5 km) east of Quebec City on the north shore of the St. Lawrence is a very picturesque region that begins at Montmorency, and leads toward the famous Charlevoix County farther east. It encompasses the area where the French first settled more than four centuries ago, and where the English under General Wolfe first attempted unsuccessfully to conquer New France.
