Under that conditions, indigenous species are always a wise choice. The strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo) is the small tree displayed in the flag of the city of Madrid together with a bear. Bears do not walk, however, by the forests of Madrid since one thousand years ago, and the strawberry tree is found just in the mountains of the Guadarrama range and is pretty scarce.
