We drove from Rotorua to Kaitaia. We rushed through Auckland as fast as possible and stayed at Dargaville overnight. We stayed 2 nights in Kaitaia so we could take a whole day discovering Cape Reinga and the peninsula. The weather cleared up in the afternoon and some of the sights were spectacular. Next stop, Russell and the Bay of Islands.
