Most of the Living Desert’s nearly three square miles of area consists of undisturbed Sonoran desert. Those seeking the genuine desert experience can hike any of three nature trails, or “loops” as they are called, of varying lengths up to 3 ½ miles (5.8 km). You must register at the trail head, start your hike before 12 noon, and have water and appropriate equipment with you. A hike would have been interesting, but my two artificial knees went on strike.
