When it was completed in 1931, at 102 stories (1,454 ft or 443.2 m) it became the world’s tallest building, eclipsing the nearby Chrysler Building, which had been opened two years earlier. It will lose its title as America’s tallest building in 2013, when the 1 World Trade Center is completed.
