''Sully's landing strip''
Boat Tours in Manhattan picture - On 15 January 2009, US Airways flight 1549 "ingested" a flock of geese and lost all power shortly after takeoff and seemed doomed. With nerves of steel and superb airmanship, Captain Sully Sullenberger (a former USAF pilot) glided the Airbus to an unprecedented ditching near this very spot on the Hudson River. All 155 occupants were safely evacuated by boat, with no casualties, as the plane slowly sank: it was eventually retrieved from the icy waters.
