<noembed><nolayer><div style="position:absolute; left:0; top:-100; display:none;"> A street leading toward the centre<br> Provence picture - Only out here, away from the centre of Aix, does one see the sort of streets which were clearly designed for cars, trucks and buses. The traffic here can be quite heavy and moves with the kind of speed one might expect. Once a vehicle gets to the centre of AIx, its driver has two choices depending on what his/her destination might be. Either (s)he can use the circular ring road to approach the intended destination most closely, or to head into the ancient centre of the town. If the latter is the driver&#39;s choice, the vehicle&#39;s progress will be much slower. The reasons for this are basically three: (1) The lanes, or alleys, are very narrow, (2) they are shared by vehicles and pedestrians; and (3) many of them, for motorized vehicles, are one-way only, Finally, parking spaces are few and often available only to people who actually live there. </div></nolayer></noembed>
