Living in a place where the existing light emphasizes and dramatizes the colour of things, it is not surprising that colour becomes very important to the general population and draws artist to such a place. The blue in this photograph , to some people, may just be blue, but surely, the blue of the bay, or of the Mediterranean Sea beyond,or that of the sky is bound to delight and to inspire an artist. Le Chateau d'If, on the island of the same name contrasting the blue with its severe light and rocky grey inspired Alexandre Dumas to use it for the place of imprisonment of the fictional "Count of Monte Cristo"
