The rainy season runs from June to September so we could not complain about the downpours every day. Apart from the spectacular Pagodas and temples and the beautiful golf course, my main memory will be of the lovely polite people.

Everyone from our regular driver to the hotel staff could not have been nicer. We also found some very good restaurants thanks to TripAdviser.

It was a worthwhile visit however at this stage I think there are more interesting Asian countries to see before you go to Burma.

The Shwedagon Pagoda is not only the religious center of Yangon, but it is also the cultural and spiritual heart of Myanmar itself. Buddhists come on pilgrimages from all over the country to this historic site, to venerate the Buddha and to breathe in the meditative spirit of this sacred shrine, and visitors are enchanted by its shining golden beauty.

The reclining Buddha is 70 metres long.It is located downtown Yangon Myanmar at the Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda's with it's faded colonial atmosphere.The distinguishing marks on the soles of the Buddha.There are a hundred and eight distinguishing marks on both soles of the Buddha. They represent the three worlds, but this is a complete story which I shall write about later.

Yangon has been the capital of Myanmar since the middle of the 19th century when the British transformed it into their administrative centre of Further India. It's impressive colonial and spiritual heritage makes Yangon one of the most fascinating capitals of South East Asia.
