Oakland Cemetery was founded in 1850 and is the oldest cemetery in Atlanta. It covers 48 acres of land in downtown Atlanta and an estimated 70,000 people are buried there. Among the buried are Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone With the Wind, golf legend Bobby Jones, and approximately 6,900 Confederate soldiers.
