<noembed><nolayer><div style="position:absolute; left:0; top:-100; display:none;"> Another huge space<br> The Rhone Valley picture - The height of the ceilings in all oft these spaces was most impressive. &#34;Le Palais des Papes&#34; had seen difficult times. It had been used as army barracks as well as a prison during the Napoleonic era. Being thus used and abused by people for whom its historical importance was of little concern, and after the 20th century with its two world wars and the necessity to first concentrate on rebuilding the whole country, never mind the maintenance of historically significant palaces, it is not too surprising that this Palais des Papes does not look as it did when the Popes resided there. What is amazing and lucky is that the place still exists to be restored as a national, historical monument. </div></nolayer></noembed>
