This is all that is left of the summer residence of the Avignon popes. And, since the popes not only lived in an area where grapes were grown and made into wine, but because they also enjoyed drinking it, there is now, just around two or three corners from here, a winery which produces a wine known by the name of CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE. It was to it that we headed next; not only to taste that lovely wine, but also to be served a lovely dinner. It, of course was served with that lovely French wine.
