This photo journal features part 1 of my 2-part Kelowna BC set. Kelowna, which means grizzly bear, was named by the Okanagan First Nation. The city, located on Okanagan Lake in the Okanagan Valley in the SW interior of BC, is largest city in the tourist-oriented Okanagan Valley. In fact, Kelownas International Airport is the 10th busiest airport in Canada.
Kelowna, which was first settled in 1879 after Father Charles M. Pandosy, a French Roman Catholic Oblate missionary arrived in 1859, was incorporated in 1905.
