TBM Avenger
Museums in San Diego picture - It was introduced by Grumann, ironically, on 7 Dec 1941 as the Navys first torpedo bomber, and was the heaviest single engine aircraft of WWII. It could carry a torpedo and a ton of bombs, and had a fully loaded range of 1,000 miles. It entered carrier service in 1942, in time for the Battle of Midway. Probably its most famous pilot was at the time the USNs youngest aviator, future president George Bush Sr.
