Pacific Golden Plover<br> Greater Oahu picture - Known in Hawaii as the Kolea, these plovers nest in Alaska and migrate to Hawaii for the winter. A few of these birds had arrived about the same time I did. During the winter, they make a startling transformation, going from the rather drab feathers you see here to a handsome black and white breeding plumage in the spring.
