Not only had I never seen or photographed this species before, I had never heard of it and it did not show up in my Hawaii Field Guide to Birds. It took me quite awhile but I finally identified it by searching the internet. In the interest of truth in advertising, I have modified this photo a little in Photoshop Elements. When I took the photo, the bird in the foreground was feeding off to the right of the other two and was far enough away to make it a difficult composition. In the interest of artistic sensibility, I clipped him and moved him to where you see him now.
