Knowing something about the geology of the place is important to understand what you are watching. The oldest rocks of the island were produced by very deep submarine eruptions under a high pressure, and the lava emerging solidified quickly as dense blocks. Some of these old lavas are found on surface at Las Angustias, including this kind known by geologists as “pillow lava”.
