Started in 1276 by the Eremitani friars, the church was completed in 1306 with the construction of the wood beam ceiling by Fra'Giovanni, who also built the ceiling at the Palazzo della Ragione. The church contains frescoes by Giusto de'Menabuoi and Guariento and by Mantegna (the Ovetari Chapel).
