Madagascar, the big red island

I travelled for 2 months in Madagascar, visiting friends and visiting this wondrous island in the Indian Ocean. It was not yet a very popular tourist destination, although that may have changed by now. I visited Isalo Park, Ranomafana Rainforest, Fianar, Antsirarana, the west coast, one of the outlying islands and of course spent time in the chaotic but vibrant capital

We lived in Madagascar for years and I just fell in love with the country, it's beauty and of course the Malagasy people. These photos brought back lovely memories and made me long for Madagascar!!

What attracted me first were those magnificent baobabs. I first fell in love with these trees in the north west of Australia, and I believe that they are the cousins of the Madagascar ones. We (in Australia) call them boabs. Secondly your photos of the children are delightful. A wonderful album.
