Taman Negara means National Park.
Taman Negara covers an area of 4343 sq km. It is situated at the centre of Peninsular Malaysia covering three states, namely Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu. It was formerly known in 1925 as The Gunung Tahan Game Reserve. It was only in 1938 that the Sultan of Pahang, Kelantan and Trengganu set aside the present area and named it King George V National Park. When Malaysia got her independence from British Empire in 1957, it was renamed as Taman Negara.
There are four main entry points to Taman Negara. They are Kuala Koh, Sg Relau, Tanjung Mentong and Kuala Tahan. Today, Taman Negara Kuala Tahan is the most popular entrance to the national park. Kuala Tahan is also the starting point to scale Gunung Tahan (2187m), the highest mountain in Peninsular Malaysia.
