Wonderful tribute
Funny thing - my mom had my sister when she was forty going on forty-one, and me when she was forty-two going on forty-three. My mom is still around, but sadly, my aunt the WREN died at the fine old age of 86 in 2000.

Proud Son
My Mom played 3rd base for the Tigerettes! Vera Smith is 80 now, living in Victoria, BC, and enjoys watching her grandchildren play ball. My two daughters, age 10 and 13 both play at a high level -- just like their Granny did! We hear many stories about the Tigerettes. Please contact me -- Vera would be very pleased to be in contact with any of her former teammates! What a great treasure your website is! Tonight (8 June, 2005) a team photo of the Tigerettes from 1941 will be on display as part of a presentation at a local high school (Lambrick Park) that has a softball acadamy program! We are very proud of Vera and her softball accomplishments.

Wow, Wil, what a great history! It says alot about your mom that she choose to join the Navy instead of going to play in the US, it's just too bad they didn't keep the league going after the war. Great tribute to your mother and aunt.
