When people from Europe arrived in New Zealand they found it out there was people there. They were, and fortunately there are, the Maori people. We went to the Thermal Reserve & Maori Cultural Centre at the New Zealand Maori Arts & Crafts Institute, which is quite close to Rotorua city.
