There were large interesting lagoons, ports and rivers entering the Gulf along the way. The water appeared crystal clean, and the beach seemed undeveloped. I knew then that someday I must visit this coastline. I am not interested in seeing the highly visited Yucatan Peninsula even though it may be more spectacular in overt beauty.You had mentioned in your article that it may be better to avoid Tampico in favor of Tuxpan.I was wondering if you had spent time in Tampico and seen the cannal system that intersects with the Port of Tampico? I read an article that it like Ft.Laurdale Florida back in the nineteen fifties, although I wonder if that was just to promote the area? But anymore input on the Tampico-Tuxpan area would be appreciated!

Doug, your description of your trip makes your post here at Worldisround one of the best, and there is no doubt about that! Your input is what makes this web site really worth visiting. A couple of years ago I was returning to New York from Mexico City, and my plane was diverted from the normal flight pattern over the Gulf of Mexico due to extremely bad weather. So the plane ended up following most of the Gulf Coast of Mexico into Texas. I was lucky enough to have a window seat on the left side of the plane. I was amazed looking at the unusally wide never-ending beach.
