A Visit to Punta Cana, Dominica

Not really an island for North Americans, the Dominican Republic caters to the Europeans. It is a beautiful but dirty island with locals who have a flavor for conning the tourist. *Ola/, Mamma,* is a favorite phrase and indicates the mentality of the average Santo Domingan. They charge a 20% cashing fee for travelers checks so take small denomination bills only.

First and foremost, DOMINICA is another caribbean island all together. The country's name is DOMINICAN REPUBLIC!!! Get your facts together first! Your comments are insulting, untrue and just disgusting! It shows just how ignorant you are! "Santo domingans" are residents of Santo Domingo, the capital of Dominican Republic and have nothing to do with Punta Cana, another town in DR. Natives of Dominican Republic are called DOMINICANS!!! Study your facts!

Can you imagine that you were helpful!
Just read your article. Now I can't wait to go to the Dominican. I love Cuba because as you sit you hear spanish, french, italian, german... I love the European influence. When I go away I want to experience culture and something different. I do not like Cancun because you fly in and see a KFC sign. Maybe you should try Cancun. It's like a mini America and you can go to McDonalds there!!!

This is ignorance personified! How can you pass judgement on a whole culture based on a week in an insulated all inclusive resort. I have been going to this wonderful island for 16 years and find the Dominican people kind and gracious. Perhaps you should stick with Disneyworld. We just returned from our second trip to the DR. On our very first trip we fell in love with the people of the Dominican, the culture and the history. I most certainly think you are miserably mistaken to say that all Dominicans have this "mentality". I would assume that you probably speak english and have never attempted to learn another language or broaden you horizons to learn about other cultures. I too am extremely offended that you would post such a judgemental statement to the web. I am certain that the people of the DR would not have passed judgement on you as you have done to them. Unfortunately it is people like you that foster hate and discontent in our world today! We found the Dominican people to be some of the most sincere and incredibly wonderful people in the world.
