Seeking advice
Hello, Your pictures are wonderful. I was hoping you could tell me the region with the "white sand" beaches. We are looking at vacation packages in March, but have heard that some of the beaches are rocky. Thanks!

Thank you Oldhippy,
not only for your nice comments, but also for your great help before my trip. You are a caribbean expert!!

Emma, have a look here: http://www.freewebs.com/brigsy1/susanstripreports.htm .At the end of trip report2 there are info about where i stayed in Las Galeras and the highlights of the area.

Where did you stay in las Galeras?
Hi Susan,

Just wondering what accomodations you had in Las Galeras and where would you recommend? We are planning on going there early March.

Thanks, Emma

Hi Lynn,

I left for summer holidays and i just came back for the Olympic Games.About your question,Rincon is closer to Las Galeras but if you rent a car or a motorcycle it's easy to go around and everything is close. There are no rooms on Rincon (thank God-i hope it remains so forever)only 2 fish tavernas.Tropix in Sosua is a few meters from the main road and the beach was very nice but touristic, with sunbeds and hotels facing the sea and many souvenir shops, restaurants and bars. If you need anything else my email is synergeio@spicar.gr

Hi Susan ! Thanks for your response. No worries about the timing as our trip is several months away. Wow...your trip sounds like an "experience"...and that's what it all about! Is Playa Rincon closer to Las Galeras or Las Terrenas. Did you spend the night at Rincon? or Las Galeras? We're trying to decide what area we want to spend the majority of our time in and it looks like Las Terrenas is the choice. You mention that you also enjoyed Sosua..how was the beach there, as it sound like it is very small. How far was the Tropix hotel from the town and restaurants bars etc? Thank-you so much for your help with ALL my questions!

Hi, Lynn
I'm sorry i didn't check my messages earlier. You can read my whole adventure in DR here: http://www.freewebs.com/brigsy1/susanstripreports.htm Yes,we rented the car at the airport and we gave it back the time we left the island. Our favorite place was Samana peninsula, esp.Las Terrenas village.Everywhere it's very safe, don't worry.

Hi Susan!

Your pictures are spectacular! We have never been to DR before and are not interested in the All Inclusive vacation. We prefer to travel off the beaten path.Looks like you had the vacation we are looking for! Did you have a car the entire time you were in DR? Any problems? Also what was your favorite village? We'd like to stay in town/village with a nice beach for snorkelling and the ability to mix with the locals and indulge in the local foods. We also don't want to stay in the same place for the entire vacation. Any suggestions on your most favorite spots and the places you might avoid? Thanks so much for your help!

Hi!
"Loma Cercada" hotel is in Playa Bonita but not on the beach. It's about 200m after you pass the wooden bridge. It was the cheaper i found. In Sosua i stayed at hotel Tropix (www.tropixhotel.com)30$ for double room, very nice but not on the beach.I don't care if my room is on the beach,i'm not staying there anyway.

Liked the pictures as I am "exploring for an affordable family vacation to the Caribbean. DR sounds good. Any comment on the Loma Cercada hotel? Where is this? On a beach?
