I had just turned sixty when I went to Berlin for the very first time. I now regret not having been there before... I landed at Tempelhof Airport in July 2005! Amazing feeling when you finally get somewhere you had been longing to see for so many years! First that usual, nearly banal fit of loneliness on leaving the airport building, then the Luftbrücke monument, then the U-Bahn and the friendly people ready to help... Then a week in Prenzlauerberg. Some kind of big village in the middle of the city. Berlin has so many "middles". Then all the rest! The museum, the past that has left so many clues everywhere. Angels in the sky. Thank you Wim. I love Berlin, have been there about 4-5 times and keep dreaming of returning! Potsdam is esp. enchanting! Did you know, there are 174 museums there? It's the only city with 3 opera companies! It's still considered (2003?) the cheapest of the capitols of Europe, but don't know how long this will continue! The Zoo in middle of the city is wonderful, also the acquarium! I'm a Berliner.Born and raised.I have been back since 1976 once a year.Berlin is , or was a beautyfull city.Since the Wall came down and the rebuilding started West Berlin is a forgoten City.What a shame.I'm proud of Berlin,it is like no other City in the World and the People are uniqe.But i'm a shame to show People the City who was behind the Ironcurtain and survived.
