Your photos are like walking through time. My father was Tommy Spencer - he was a maritime welter weight boxing champion (1940's)and he passed away in 2000...but his heart never left New Waterford - he told lots of funny stories about being on the police department and boxing in Glace Bay against his good friend, Joe Pyle. Thank you so much, your photos made me smile :-)

love the page. My Mom, now 97+ was born in New Waterford, 1911. Helen Murphy. Her parents were Harry and Effie McKinnon or MacKinnon)Murphy. Harry and several brothers (Joe) worked in the mines. The family moved to Newton, Ma somewhere around 1920. Can't wait to show Mom the pics on your site.

Piper Alan C Macdonald
This is to Agnes Wilton: I knew your grandfather I called him Mr.Alan C. He lived on the same street as my family. He used to come and visit my house daily on his way to doing his crossing guard job. He always called me his little girl. He always brought me a treat. It was so nice to see his name and I think of him often. He was a kind and gentle man and I was so blessed to know him & his family.

Memories!!! Wow!!!
My brother Bernie forwarded this web site to me and I thoroughly enjoyed recalling my growing up years in Scotchtown and New Waterford. What a wonderful undertaking! One might leave CB for whatever reason but CB always has a place in our hearts. Thanks Fr. Gerry

Hi Buddy, I enjoy your videos very much, and I just came across your pictures. Its not hard to tell you have a love and talent for what you do. My Grandmother came from Sydney Mines and if she was still alive I would have loved to show her it all. I hope to travel to Cape Breton this summer to take pictures, it is a passion of mine also.

Thanks so much, I truely enjoyed it. Christina

— Buddy Penney, September 22, 2007

Wow!
Great work, Buddy! I happened upon this site and it just surprised me and MOVED me to see images of my town, many years before I even existed. I was born in Sydney in 1984 but raised right after in New Waterford. My grandmother, Frances Muise (Ling) was a nurse up at the Consolidated, and it excited me to see pictures of it, here. My father, Brian (Coco) Campbell, worked in the Lingan and Prince mines. As a child, I so often spent time in long-gone places such as DeGiobbi Ballfield, and ran amuck in the area close to it.

Thank you for ressurecting these places for me again, in photography.

Just in case anyone knows the family.... Hi to everyone PS... Was thinking how many times I and friends played around the Miners Monument when we were kids.... it was a favorite play area..
