<noembed><nolayer><div style="position:absolute; left:0; top:-100; display:none;"> The castle&#39;s entrance gate:<br> Scenery in England picture - This big castle [fort] provided a secure base for the Roman fleet sheltering in the harbour back in the ancient times (the 1st - 5th century). The fort walls are very impressive &#38; enclose a considerable area, which was occupied up to &#38; beyond the departure of the Roman army in the 5th. Evidence of civilians living inside the fort exists in the form of archeological finds from the period of women&#39;s shoes, domestic &#38; industrial activity, &#38; infant burial. At this period, adult burial was outside the settlement area. All of these are depicted inside the castle&#39;s museum, as seen back in part 1. *After the Romans left, the walls &#38; buildings inside were ready made for the local population &#38; then later on the West Saxon settlers. </div></nolayer></noembed>
