After repelling the Viking invasion up north, the local king of England had no choice but to rush down here (some 500+ kilometers south) to meet the new invaders - the Normans under William "the Conqueror." Of course, they were tired, weary, & reduced in numbers but they had no choice! This put them in a big disadvantage versus the well-rested & battle-ready Normans. *The great battle between the locals & the invading Normans greatly changed England forever as the victorious Normans installed their way of government, their culture & architecture (e.g. style in building castles), & everything else that's English nowadays. But I'll discuss that great battle in the next article, the immediate history & circumstances leading to that great battle (i.e. England's immediate history prior to 1066 particulary the 9th & early 10th), & the totally different way of life the Normans installed in post-Roman England.
