For Namesake's Sake I know this is probably a little late for you but my partner and myself were trying to get to Zeya. The way we did it was fly from Moscow to Blagoveshensk (there are two flights daily and can be booked from any ticket office in Moscow), there is also a train..

In the Blagoveshensk airport is a ticket office that sells plane tickets to Zeya, the plane flies twice a week, there is also a train every two days that stops in the middle of nowhere about an hour away from Zeya - the trip is an overnight one and takes around twelve hours, from the station you can hitch (which in Russia involves paying the driver and is very common and safe) or catching a bus that is usually waiting, don't worry this is a very popular stop and hundred's of people will be traveling to Zeya.

You may find it a little difficult to get there if you don't speak Russian.

Anyway I know there isn't much information on traveling to Zeya so I hope this helps someone searching.

To Namesake's Sake: I flew to Khabarovsk on Alaska Airlines, which no longer makes that route. Then by train to Blagoveshchensk, then by car to Zeya. Blago is worth spending time in also; it's a great city. If you can get a double entry visa, be sure and visit Heihe, China, right across the river. I lived with Russians while there, so I didn't pick out tourist spots but was included in some wonderful events. There is abig gold mine in Zeya, as well as a gigantic reservoir and dam.

Any tips on travel to reach Zeya? What airlines do go there and what would be the best places to see? This is where my family is from, as I suppose my name gives away (spelling to translation differences.) What would be the best "tourist" and "non-tourist" places to visit?

childhood in zeya
I grew up in Zeya, from age of 7 to 17. My father was an engineer, one of htose who built Zeysky Damp and power plant. I could not open and view neither of pictures on Worldisround. Can anybody help me? I really would like to see what Zeya is like today.

I have been doing some family research and came across this site. Thank you. My family Oparin are from Zeya and like another person noted they also fled across the Amur River at night in small groups to China. My family left in 1921 and I was later born in Shanghai. My mother was born in Zeya in 1924. Contact with her relatives was lost during WWII. I often wonder if I have relatives still there. Hope to travel there myself someday. The opportunity to see the area is really appreciated
