Rawalpindi, Islamabad's Twin City, is located in North East Pakistan and has a population of 1,406,214. It occupies the site of an old village inhabited by the Rawals, a tribe of Yogis. A railroad junction and an important industrial and commercial center, the city has an oil refinery, gasworks, an iron foundry, railroad yards, a brewery, sawmills, and factories making tents, textiles, hosiery, pottery, and leather goods. i had; but i never expected to cross the limit; and i would not do that so; here in my life i have to do something before i sleep finally. i have never seen rawalpindi but i can paint in my mind with enormous colors with beautiful flavors. i can feel the streets of that city where he walked; i can sense the school and colleges where he studied; many unsaid things happend to me without his concern; here in this desert land in the middle east; we are working together; i am a poet deep inside but an unfortunate engineer.....also in 1971 i was a 2 years old child; and i am from bangladesh. i have never seen a person like him in my life; never ever. may god bless our friendship; i have many plans to do something in this life and would like to worth our friendship. i also would like to visit there. some relationship should better left unsaid. that's all i can say from a beautiful man of a beautiful city.

Sweet memories of pindi
Rawalpindi is my home town. I lived in Dhok Ratta, mohallah Captain sahib.Studied in Cantt public school haider road and than in Gordon College Rawalpindi for FiSc before leaving for UET Lahore.I remembered pindi as a very good city. I used to travel by foot to my school and college. Very small traffic on the roads and I enjoyed travelling by foot. In the after noon Saddar was very good place to visit with the friends. Its a strange haveli spread over three mohallas through over head passages. Heard that recently has been donated to Fatima Jinnah university. Haveli is strange huge and mysterious. I love all the pics of Pakistan on this site. I haven´t been to Pakistan since 2003 and I´m getting totally depressed without it. Every trip to my lovely Pakistan makes me humble and freshens up my soul, it´s amazing. I live in Stockholm, Sweden and it´s sooooooooo boring! Don´t get me wrong, I love Swe too since I was born here but......it can be really hard sometimes when you don´t feel accepted even if you know every code of the culture and speak the language fluently. Pakistan has this amazing air to it that just makes everybody feel welcome, it´s in the soul of the country.

It is good to show the better part but all must think and decide how to overcome the increasing traffic jams in pindi, special need is to construct a second or alternative link between pindi and Islamabad, as Murree and Rawal roads become too crowded in peak hours. do think about Murir Chowk.

It was great to find this website. I was born in Pindi and lived in the area up to the age of 19. I left in 1956 and have never been back but I constantly think of the happiest time of my life and would love to re-visit the place although I know there have been enormous changes over the past 50 years.

Nice to see the old Plaza cinema is still standing, brings back memories of seeing the night show without my parents' knowing. We lived on The Mall not far from Flashmans Hotel.

Maureen, what takes you to Pindi? a lot of what you experience would depend on what capacity you are there in. Wearing jeans you might be the odd person out. wear the traditional garb, and you will fit in more (shalwar kameez). if it's a foreign woman, folks are generally quite friendly, especially if the female had blonde hair :) since that is an anomoly. what else can i tell you? let me know if you have specific questions i can help with.

I was attached to the old all indian Army during 1946 and '47.I had no rank, just a signalman in the signals at a camp just outside the city.I was in Rawalpindi about six months. then campellpore. Having just looked at many pictures on this website. WELL DONE PAKISTAN! What a difference from before 1948!
