Nijyo Castle East Garden, Kyoto Sightseeing in Japan picture - A portion of the magnificant gardens surrounding Nijyo Castle. A favorite scene location for Akira Kurosawa samurai movies, this famous Castle located in central Kyoto, was the home and garrison of a Shogun who had a bit of a paranoid streak (no doubt not entirely unwarranted!). The Shogun's residence (Ninomaru Palace) had a specially constructed floor which when trod upon caused a high pitched squeaking sound (called the Nightingale floor). This was to deter ninja assasins who trained in the temples and hills surrounding Kyoto.
