The sun temple of Konark

The crowning glory of Oriya temple architecture,the sun temple also known as *the Black Pagoda*. As per legend, Samba son of Lord Krishna was afflicted by leprosy, brought about by his fathers curse on him. After 12 years of penance, he was cured by Suriya, the sun god, inwhose honour he built this temple. Built by Raja Narasimhadeva of the Ganga dynasty, in the 13 th century AD.
