We were in North Kohala on King Kamehameha Day. His statues all over the island were draped in flowers. He united all the islands by force in the late 1700's-early 1800's. Apparently, some enterprising Westerners had provided him with modern armament and military advisors. Bet that made it a whole lot easier against other stone age warriors.
