The beautiful Waipi'o Valley and adjoining coast. There was a large settlement in this valley that was wiped out by a tsunami in 1946. It flooded the valley with a 50 foot wall of water. Only recently have a few folks come back to settle and farm the valley. You'll need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to manage the 45 degree grade (!) of the road down into the valley. (Although I reserved a Jeep expressly for the valley, I was told at check-in that it was forbidden to drive down there.)
