One coffee tree only produces a pound and a half of coffee beans. Picking of the red ripe "cherries", which contain two beans, is very tedious and laborious. Pickers are hard to find, and many are flown in just for the season. Even in Kona, the price of Kona coffee exceeds $20 per pound on the average.
